If you haven’t seen a Babymetal show or video, you’re in for something completely different. It’s an unlikely combination of anime, heavy metal and kabuki opera. In the Star Wars inspired intro video, they claim to be given the spirit of Heavy Metal from the METAL MASTERS and why not? With the release of Babymetal’s debut album, the group has become a worldwide sensation and Babymetal cemented its strength as a legitimate creative force with Metal Resistance this year. They played a 13-song set at Chicago’s House of Blues, the best from both albums at a gig that was surprisingly stripped-down.  There were fans of all ages and as well as a large Asian turnout, this one a very diverse crowd that came out to experience Babymetal live. The sold out crowd sang along with most of the songs, not caring if they weren’t sure about how the primarily Japanese lyrics were pronounced.

After “Uki Uki Midnight” the Kami Band, came to the front and Su-metal, Yuimetal and Moametal a short break while they took everyone to school and showed how hard they could shred. The combined force of Takayoshi Ohmura and Mikio Fujioka on guitars is pretty amazing and will take you back to early Metallica or Iron Maiden, they’re that good. BOH on bass delivered riff after riff on a six-stringed bass. Drummer Aoyama Hideki had crazy energy, and keep it hard and fast. The girls are the stars of the show, but the members of the Kami Band are the reason they can do what they do.

They closed the show with some of their best, “Gimme Chocolate!!”, “THE ONE” and “Road of Resistance”. If you get a chance, go see this band live! For the rest of Babymetal’s world tour dates, click here. http://www.babymetal.com/schedule
