Lolahiko release new single and announce show

Los Angeles duo Lolahiko – comprised of singer/songwriter Lauren Marie and vocalist/producer Ike Kawaguchi – has released a follow-up to their 2016 debut EP The Year We Died But Stayed Alive. The new single, “Tender,” released on June 9, is described by the band: “Oftentimes, as relationships go through ups and downs and the end seems near, we wish to change the dynamic before it completely dies. Can we be friends? Can be tender? Can we be kind? We still aren’t sure if it’s fully possible, but this song is about that struggle.”

While working on new music, Lolahiko has been playing one-off shows in the LA area – catch them this weekend, July 29, at El Cid. Tickets here

Praise for Lolahiko:

  • “A thunderstorm and organ music, the darkest funeral you can imagine. Enter gorgeous, ethereal vocals that answer each other’s prayers back and forth. Lauren and Ike’s voices are perfectly vibey, intertwined well with percussion that immediately gets your hips swaying. The sound? Think Tim Burton-meets-Lana del Rey-meets-Bishop Briggs.”

Impose Magazine

  • “Lolahiko are a duo from LA whom I predict are about to cause a mini musical hurricane with their debut EP “The Year We Died But Stayed Alive”. It mixes alternative synths from the dark side and some amazing vocals from the light...Lolahiko’s debut EP is superb. Emotion, style and substance in bucketloads and with some interesting production and soundscape choices.” Higher Plain Music

  • “Like a wasted bouquet of wilted flowers being photographed in an elaborate studio setting with obscenely expensive photography equipment, the synth pop of Lauren Marie and Ike Kawaguchi makes lines like “near our old favorite dirty bar, that we always used to meet at… I hate your guts” seem like the tagline for a corpse-scented luxury perfume from some dystopian, trend-setting, high-fashion brand.” Tiny Mixtapes

  • “A brooding collection of dark synth-pop.” Buzzbands.LA

  • “This talented pair of artists have found a way to complement each other’s strengths and to turn that blend into a melodious soundscape that you’ll want to explore. Lauren’s haunting and magnetic voice paired with Ike’s melodies and synth mastery can be felt in their latest single “Funeral”.” Wolf in a Suit

  • “Even if their latest single weren’t called “Murderer,” Lolahiko would have the corner market on dark, mysterious storytelling stitched into lush, intriguing indie pop sounds...Kawaguchi’s production takes these songs from seething to danceable, but lyrically, this is a group interested in pushing boundaries and taboos involving the deepest, darkest parts of the human psyche.” Bitch Media
