SUM 41 The Birthday Party!!!
Celebrating the 15th anniversary of their Does This Look Infected? record, the longtime pop-punk band Sum 41 kicked off their current headlining tour in San Francisco this past Friday, entertaining a packed house while at the same time showing that the songs are still just as relevant today as they were when the record was originally released.
Opening their set with the song that also opens the record ("The Hell Song,") frontman Deryck Whibley told the crowd that it was more of a birthday party than an anniversary, and immediately pulled a few lucky fans out of the audience to watch the show from the stage, as confetti cannons went spraying the crowd with multicolored confetti. The band (which now includes original guitarist Dave “Brownsound” Baksh) played the record in its entirety and highlights included "Over My Head (Better Off Dead,) "Hyper-Insomnia Para-Condrioid," "Mr. Amsterdam," and "Billy Spleen." They also played "Fake My Own Death" of their latest release 13 Voices, as well as covers of both Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" and Queen's "We Will Rock You before wrapping up their set and the evening with a highly energetic version of their biggest hit, "Fat Lip."
With a new record in the works it appears that Sum 41 will be sticking around for a bit, and if the San Francisco show was any indication, they are definitely are back on top of their game.
Support on this tour comes from Seaway, the Ontario, Canada based band who put on a highly energetic set of their own, as well as Super Whatever, who, playing their first show with new drummer, and were the perfect band to get the crowd pumped for the headliners.
