In the midst of her third sold-out US tour, and in the wake of two sold-out shows at London's Brixton 02 Academy, Grammy Nominated (for Best New Artist) Jorja Smith has today unveiled the incredible visual for "The One" - a track taken from her critically acclaimed, Mercury Music Prize-nominated album, Lost & Found. Directed by Hector Dockrill (Pulse Films)- who also directed the visual for Jorja's previous single "Beautiful Little Fools"- the video sees Jorja desperately trying to leave a lover and relationship that she knows isn't right; but always being pulled back in. Eventually finding the strength to leave, the visual ends on an empowered and beautiful moment of true emotion.
Speaking on the video, director Hector Dockrill - states: "The track really inspired me to try and visualise what it's like to keep getting pulled back into a relationship. With the concept I wanted to leave the question, "what has happened?" I also felt the video should be beautifully simple to let Jorja's incredible energy and performance drive the video, which she naturally did."
The beautiful visual lands on the same day as two incredible remixes from the supremely talented Sir Spyro, and the legendary DnB master High Contrast, and the news of a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist !
Jorja Smith released her hugely anticipated debut album Lost & Found in June this year, which was followed by an array of outstanding reviews and subsequently charted at No.3 in the UK charts. On her debut offering, Smith's playfully infectious pop spirit intertwines with her youthful charisma, idiosyncratic storytelling, and informed opinions - attributes that have set her apart from her peers and seen her become one of the UK's most-loved female-breakthrough stars of recent years. With a BRIT Award win, millions of streams and sold-out tours all achieved in just two years - Jorja Smith's rise to stardom has been nothing short of meteoric. Earlier this year, Jorja also won the 'British Breakthrough Artist' at both the GQ Men Of The Year Awards and AIM Awards, before going on to share the beautiful Rashid Babiker directed visual for "On Your Own", and embarking on a sold-out world-wide tour.
Bursting onto the scene in 2016 with her critically acclaimed debut single "Blue Lights", Jorja was subsequently tipped for success by a plethora of publications including The Times, The Fader, i-D Magazine, The Guardian, and many more. In 2017, Jorja, went on to support mega-star Bruno Mars on the US-leg of his world tour, collaborated with global lyricist Drake ('More Life') and also co-wrote "I Am" - her solo single on the Grammy-nominated #1 Black Panther soundtrack - with the man himself, Kendrick Lamar. Kicking-off 2018 as BRITs Critics' Choice winner, she followed with her sensational single "Let Me Down"; a stunning, frank, and honest track which featured an emotion-filled rap from British MC Stormzy.
Now, after numerous Summer festival dates, including a phenomenal debut performance at Coachella, her fourth UK Sold-out tour in October which saw her playing two sold-out Brixton 02 Academy dates, and a sold-out US tour, Jorja is getting ready for an equally awe-inspiring 2019 that will see her headlining festivals across the world.
Catch her this Sunday, December 16 at Boston's House of Blues!
