Friend or Foe
Friend or Foe by Adam Ant
Way way back in 1982 I was 15 yrs old….there was a singer his name Adam Ant, he was a mischievous sort always dodging the press. He didn’t drink and didn’t smoke often leaving the press wondering what did he do? Adam Ant released his debut solo album Friend or Foe to answer their queries…
TimeWarp forward to 2019, dimming the house lights out comes the band, still sporting signature two drummers a full five piece minus the horn section…. first few bars of the title track that kicks off the night to the rhythm of Friend or Foe and then in comes the man himself
Mr Adam Ant to a rousing applause and cheers from the audience
Adam then led into Something girl which I felt a little bad for him at the end as he couldn’t whistle…which is ok because these days whistling at girls can get you into trouble. Adam hipswayed his way across the stage and into Place in the Country, then a personal favorite Desperate but not Serious. Always found the New wave version of the Doors Hello I Love you to be very entertaining. Now this next song is the song Adam did as a tribute to the London press… We all know it and love it! Goody Two Shoes! Adam still has fun frolicking around on stage especially during Goody Two Shoes he is one of the few who appreciates his audience.
Adam certainly knows how to coordinate a setlist, the audience seemingly happy and content were then hit with another fan favorite “Viva Le Rock” which rocked the house! He then led into a run of Adam and the Ants musical anthology Antmusic, Zerox, Cartrouble, Ants Invasion, Prince Charming. Funny part is most musicians today can’t make it through a 10 song setlist at this point Adam has doubled that and is still going strong with “Strip” then rounding it out withLady / Fall In/ Kings of the Wild Frontier, Beat My Guest, and finishing it up the set with Stand and Deliver and did he…. The crowd definitely wanted more
After a 25 song set the Ant man is still at it ripping up the stage with the same songs he topped the charts with back in 82 and sounding just as good. He swaggered out for three more to wrap up the evening… Press Darlings, Red Scab and of course Physical (You’re So)
Live music is live music, people today forget that the rawness of the 80’s is what made it so special
